No More Line Freezing!
Scott Can Industries Ltd., one of Canada's pioneers in catalytic heating products is now proud to add a new heat-tracing product to its already extensive line of equipment. The AURORA, which may be used in conjunction with most types of catalytic heaters provides a self-contained, convenient, simple and cost effective method of freeze protection in pipes in hazardous area facilities or where there is no electrical power available for this purpose. No pump, gas or electricity is required.
How Does It Work?
The AURORA is largely comprised of a stainless steel atmospheric pulse reservoir and and a simple stainless steel tube heat exchanger, which is attached to the front of the catalytic heater. Stainless steel tube, strapped to the pipes that are to be traced, are connected at one end to the exchanger outlet and at the return end to the atmospheric reservoir. A series of check and ball valves are used to control flow and prevent back-pressure.
The reservoir, which is above the catalytic heater, stores a methanol-based fluid, which is released into the exchanger and trace loop as required. In less than sixty seconds, the catalytic heater heats the fluid contained in the exchanger to boiling point at which time the fluid is forced through the heat trace loop. As it travels through the loop, the fluid condenses, cools and pressure is released. The fluid returns to the storage reservoir under a small pressure and the heating cycle repeats.
As an example, an AURORA fitted to a 12′x 24′ catalytic heater, provides an output suitable to prevent freezing in 35′ of 2″ to 4″ diameter pipe at -40°C.
Cost Effective
The AURORA system is competitively priced and is extremely cost effective to operate and maintain. The system draws its heating power from heaters, which in most cases are already installed. In addition, the AURORA has no significant impact on the heater's ability to heat the facility in which it is located.
Traditional systems that require a pump and operate on gas or electric power are expensive to operate and require frequent replacement of the pump.
Easy to Install! Easy to Maintain!
The AURORA can be installed on most catalytic heaters in 1 to 2 hours, depending on the size and complexity of the trace.
Unlike many other more complicated systems, the AURORA requires only three easy maintenance procedures to ensure trouble free operation for many years.
Drain the system once a year in the spring.
Top up the reservoir approximately every three weeks in the winter and as required depending on use during the other seasons.
Clean the check valve tops every six to seven years and clean with an emery board if required.
Warranty
The AURORA is fully warranted by Scott Can Industries Ltd. for twelve months.
